Hammer Horde Unveil New Album ‘Vinlander’!

US Viking metallers Hammer Horde have released their second full-length EP, ‘Vinlander’!

The follow-up to their 2009 debut ‘Under the Mighty Oath’ promises “strong pagan metal offering for fans of Forefather, Mithotyn, and Nomans Land” and packs huge riffs, awesome hooks and some of that essential gung ho, chest-beating bravado we all love ‘em for.

The album was recorded at Dimmworks studios and mastering was handled by Mika Jussila of Finnvox Studios – the same studio combo that shaped the sound of the band’s well-received debut release. You can currently grab the album with an exclusive package deal including a CD, T-shirt, and 11×17 poster over at http://www.stormsurgerecords.com/vinlander. Get on it.

The The releases ‘Moonbug’ soundtrack album, re-starts ‘Radio Cineola’ podcasts

[tweetmeme]After a decade of inactivity, The The is back with its second album in just two years, another film score, this time for the documentary “Moonbug,” about photographer Steve Pyke’s journey to document America’s space pioneers, bandleader Matt Johnson announced today on the group’s newly revamped website.

The 17-track album, which was first mentioned last year, is now for sale via The The’s website, and is packaged in an 80-page hardback edition featuring Pyke’s portraits of the Apollo astronauts, an interview with Pyke by Johnson (read an excerpt) and notes from director Nichola Bruce.

The record follows the 2010 release of The The’s soundtrack to the serial-killer film “Tony.” Johnson debuted two of the new tracks — “Driving Through” and “Leaving Earth” — on his “Radio Cineola” podcast in August 2010 (that episode, and others, can be sampled and purchased in full here).

And speaking of “Radio Cineola,” after taking 2011 off, Johnson has re-started the podcast series, although it does not appear to be monthly this time around. In January, a new episode appeared on the band’s site, with, as usual, some unreleased music from Johnson’s The The vaults.

Below, check out a trailer for The The’s Moonbug.

Steve Strange preps Detroit Starzz debut, working on first Visage album in 28 years

[tweetmeme]Steve Strange, frontman of “Fade to Grey” hitmakers Visage and founder of the New Romantic hub The Blitz in London, is gearing up for a busy 2012, with a debut album due next month from electronic dance project Detroit Starzz and plans for a fourth Visage album — that group’s first in 28 years — to be released in May.

The Detroit Starzz album, titled Wasteland, includes first single “Aiming for Gold,” as well as a cover of David Bowie’s “Loving the Alien,” both of which you can stream below, in addition to two other tracks. Strange currently is in talks to book a U.S. tour later this year that would see the Starzz performing tracks off the album and Visage classics.

In May, Strange expects to release the Visage album, which has a working title of Become. According to one of Strange’s representatives, the new Visage record will feature the other two surviving members of the original lineup, Rusty Egan and Midge Ure, the latter of whom left the band after group’s first album was released join Ultravox.

In a recent interview with The Electricity Club, Strange talks of the new Visage record:

“I’d recently started working with Visage on a track Midge Ure had wrote for the band called “Become,” and we’d got in with Rusty and Dave Formula. Everything was going to plan but some unfortunate circumstances emerged that meant we couldn’t finish it for the time being. … We are about nine or ten tracks into the twelve tracks of the Visage album and there are basically the foundations of two more songs that are more or less done now. Then it’s basically down to Dave Formula adding some different synth parts and Rusty doing live drums on quite a few of the songs. I want twelve songs in all on the album.”

Below, you can check out four new tracks from Strange and the Detroit Starzz:

Pixies’ Black Francis to release 2nd Grand Duchy album, Catholics live record, box set

[tweetmeme]The Pixies have yet to record a new album since reuniting in 2004, but frontman Black Francis has been no stranger to the recording studio in those intervening years, and, in April, will release his latest full-length album: Let the People Speak, his second effort with wife Violet Clark as the indie/electropop duo Grand Duchy.

Additionally, Francis is prepping a Frank Black & The Catholics live set recorded March 24, 2001, in The Netherlands. Due out March 20, Live at Melkweg was recorded on the Dog in the Sand tour, and while a tracklist has yet to be released, it covers the Catholics’ catalog and features versions of Pixies classics “Mr. Grieves,” “Monkey Gone to Heaven” and “Where Is My Mind?”

According to Francis’ website, the live disc is a prelude to a “definitive” Frank Black & The Catholics six-disc box set to be released “later this year.”

As for Grand Duchy, the duo’s 15-track sophomore album is due out April 10 Sonic Unyon/Cooking Vinyl Records, and is preceded by the track “Silver Boys,” which Rolling Stone premiered last week (stream it here or download a free MP3 directly from the link below).

In announcing the album, Clark says, “My motto for this record was, ‘If (Grand Duchy debut) Petits Fours was missionary, Let the People Speak needs to be doggy style.’” Adds Black Francis: “Let the People Speak has more confidence. For Violet, the confidence of finding one’s voice; for me, the confidence to become submissive. This record was definitely more about slamming it in.”
